The Seed of Abraham

"Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?" (Luke 13:16)

Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." (Luke 19:9-10)

Jesus said He healed the crippled woman because she was a daughter of Abraham and He gave Zacchaeus salvation because he was a son of Abraham. If you are a son or daughter of Abraham then know this: that Jesus is still on a mission to seek, save, deliver and heal you. As a son or daughter of Abraham you have special rights to the covenant blessings of God that others do not have. God wants you to understand your natural and spiritual heritage so you can rightfully claim what He has promised you. If you are a Jew you are a natural descendant of Abraham. You have certain natural blessings such as the land of Canaan.  Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. Ishmael was born naturally but Isaac was born by God working a miracle to regenerate Abraham and heal Sarah's barrenness. Paul says that just as the birth of Isaac was completely different from the birth of Ishmael, so the birth of Abraham's spiritual descendants is completely different from the birth of Isaac. If you are a spiritual descendant of Abraham and you recognize and claim your inheritance you will receive your spiritual blessings from God.

Faith in Christ Jesus makes you a spiritual child of Abraham. Just as Canaan was not given to Ishmael or his descendants but to Isaac and his descendants, likewise the spiritual blessings of being redeemed from the curse placed upon lawbreakers and the promise of receiving the Holy Spirit was not given to Isaac and his descendants but to Christ and all who receive him. Jesus Christ is the only rightful seed or son of Abraham who has the right to inherit the spiritual blessings of Abraham.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, there are tremendous spiritual blessings waiting for you to recognize and receive. You are free from the curse of sickness, poverty, bondage and death. You can begin experiencing these blessings here on earth but their real fulfillment will be in the next life. You can walk in the righteousness, peace, joy and power of the Holy Spirit as you live a victorious Christian life. In order to receive these blessings you must do the works of Abraham. The work of Abraham is a work of faith. There are three main characteristics of Abraham's faith.

1.      Abraham in faith responded to God's call (Hebrews 11:8-10).

2.      Abraham by faith held on to God's promise (Hebrews 11:11-12).

3.      Abraham had faith to sacrifice present gain for future rewards (Hebrews 11:17-20).

If you want to receive the blessings that are yours as a spiritual seed of Abraham, you too must exercise faith in these three areas. I pray that you will recognize what Jesus Christ has done for you and that you will rise up in faith and claim your inheritance.
